Patients who are apprehensive about receiving dental treatment often avoid going to the dentist. Ultimately, delaying dental visits can lead to advanced disease and the need for expensive treatments that could have been avoided.
Conscious Sedation provides a safe, effective way to alleviate dental anxiety and provide patients with the treatment they need.
Conscious Sedation makes use of a prescription medication given to you by our office and taken the night before your visit and then again on the day of the appointment. The medications induce an extremely drowsy, relaxed feeling and most patients sleep through their dental visit. Due to the effects of the medication, patients must have a friend or family member bring them to the dental office and take them home.
During Conscious Sedation, the patient's vital signs are monitored to make sure the sedation does not interfere with normal functions. Although patients are not completely unconscious, most patients sleep through their dental appointment. Occasionally we will also use a bit of nitrous oxide with the sedation to enhance the effect. Because of the type of medication we use, few patients have any memory of their treatment.
Not everyone is an ideal candidate-patients with extensive medical problems may not be able to be sedated in this fashion. If you are interested in getting sedated - please fill out this (more extensive) medical history form and bring it with you to your visit with us.
Conscious Sedation is an excellent method of treatment for patients who have any of the following concerns:
Dental Anxiety
Difficulty Getting Numb
Very Sensitive Teeth
Extensive Dental Needs
Discomfort with Needles and Shots
